Jèrriais and Gallo

Today we were visited by a party of young students of the Gallo language spoken in Brittany (Gallo is related to Jèrriais so it was interesting for both sides to be able to compare the similarities between the two languages and well as practise their French and English - so our Jèrriais students from JCG managed to work on four modern languages!) We exchanged some poetry and songs and information about the region around Saint Malo, and relaxed with a picnic of specialities brought by our visitors.

Jersey and Ille-et-Vilaine have an economic and cultural agreement which includes the mutual promotion of Jèrriais and Gallo, the respective traditional languages of the jurisdictions.
